On 17 December, a fully loaded ore train derailed on the Vassijaure ore line, located a few kilometers east of Katterjokk at Sweden’s northernmost railway station. VINAB was entrusted by Tommy Höjsten, plant manager at the Swedish Transport Administration, with the task of repairing and shoring up the existing snow protection along the affected section. The aim was to get deliveries and transportation back on track quickly.
“It is with pride and great commitment that we at VINAB accepted the assignment to repair and shore up the snow protection after the derailment in Vassijaure. We understand the importance of quickly and efficiently restoring function and safety on this busy train route”
– says Marcus Lundin, Site Manager VINAB Kiruna.
VINAB has had a dedicated team of 10 people working non-stop, around the clock to ensure the repair work. A work that required a fast, efficient but also safe implementation.
“We see this as an opportunity to demonstrate our expertise and commitment to contributing to society’s infrastructure. Our focus has been to restore safety and security along the route and contribute to a smooth return to normal operations for all parties involved”
– adds Marcus Lundin, Site Manager VINAB Kiruna.
